Obituary of Jim McQuay
It is with great sadness we announce the sudden passing of Jim McQuay on Tuesday, January 23, 2018 in his 66th year. Jim will be lovingly missed by his wife and best friend, Bernice. Jim and Bernice spent the past 15 years together building cherished memories, traveling and enjoying each other’s company. Jim will also be dearly missed by his children, Shauna and Troy (2016) McQuay, stepchildren, Gary Messenger (Kina), Crystal Dimeo (Vince), siblings, Linda Robinson (David), Sandra Stanley (Rick), John McQuay, Jerry McQuay (2005), grandchildren, Ginnea, Ava, Olivia, Troy, Rachel, Brandy, Stephen and great-grandson, Seth.
Born and raised in Port Dalhousie, Jim often proudly referred to himself as a “Port Boy.” Growing up, Jim loved to play hockey and lacrosse and excelled at both. An avid New England Patriots and Chicago Blackhawks fan, Jim loved nothing more than to spend a night watching his favourite teams. Jim exceeded in life and career. The proud owner of Niagara Shuffle, Jim created a way for university students to commute back and forth from their hometown to school during their time off. The relationships that were formed were mutually enjoyed by both Jim as well as the students he served. Jim will always be remembered for his kindness, his big hugs and his ability to find the good in everyone he met. He has enriched us all, more than he will ever know.
At Jim’s request, cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Jim’s life will be held at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 585 Carlton St., on Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at 11:30 a.m. in the chapel; reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation would be appreciated by the family.
