Obituary of Roman Glinski
GLINSKI ROMAN It is with great sadness that we announce on January 23, 2012, Roman passed away peacefully at home of natural causes. Born in Krystynopol, April 14, 1925 to Eligiusz and Apolonia Glinski, Roman was younger brother to the late Zbigniew.
Like so many of his generation, Roman and Tatiana left their homelands in 1947 to establish a new life in Canada. Roman loved and honoured his Polish heritage, but he was a fiercely proud Canadian who was eternally grateful for the opportunities provided by his beloved adopted country.
He began working on Niagara farms and took other odd jobs until securing employment as a tool and die maker with General Motors, St. Catharines, retiring 35 years later as General Supervisor of the Glendale Ave. Engine Plant. His dedication and loyalty earned him the respect and admiration of everyone who knew and worked with him.
Roman lived life to the fullest, but quietly, on his terms. His interests were varied, from late nights dancing with his beautiful wife, to stamp collecting, to creating wonderful works in stained glass and crafting fine cabinetry. He and Tatiana were also avid world travelers.
Forever loved and held dear in our hearts, Roman is survived by Tatiana, his beloved wife of 67 years; son Ted (wife Fiona) and daughter Barbara (husband, Stephen Dreschel); grandchildren Ashley (Ted) and Bryan (Barbara and Stephen); and great grandchildren John, Tatiana and Juliette (Ashley),all whose lives he enriched with his love , caring and unconditional support.
The family would like to thank the very caring, empathic and professional nursing staff of Bayshore Home Health, the Red Cross PSW's and the Palliative Care Nursing Unit, all who compassionately attended to Roman's every need in the final months of his life and collectively allowed us to hour Roman's wish to pass in his own home surrounded by his wife and family. We would like to extend a very special thanks to Dr. P. Zuliani who has unfailingly provided the highest level of humane medical care to Roman and Tatiana for so many years
Family and friends will be received at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL HOME, 585 Carlton St on Friday, January 27th from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. . A funeral mass will be celebrated in Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church on Saturday at 11 am. Cremation to follow.
