Obituary of Lucy Jean Rogez

ROGEZ, Lucy - It is with sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Lucy Rogez, age 88, on Sunday, October 29, 2017, at the Douglas Memorial Hospital in Fort Erie, ON.   Lucy was born on January 13, 1929 in Glace Bay, Cape Breton. She moved to Halifax  at age 16 where she worked at the Victoria General Hospital, and then later moved to St Catharines at 18, where she was a long time employee at Loblaws. She will be remembered by friends and family for her loving smile, sense of humour, her big heart, her love of sports (baseball, figure skating and hockey), travel (her favourite places being Las Vegas and Hawaii), the casino and lottery tickets. The past two years Lucy lived at Mount Carmel Retirement Residence where she met many new friends and took part in various activities including her favourite: doing puzzles.  She was loved and well cared for by the wonderful Sisters and residents there.  Lucy is survived by her brother George (Annunciata) Rogez, Glace Bay, NS, and a number of nieces and nephews (in Ontario and Nova Scotia), as well as numerous great-nieces and nephews and many friends who will all miss her dearly.  Lucy is pre-deceased by her mother and father, Johanna (Szweda) and Constant Rogez, and her sisters, Mary (Ephraim) Kirkpatrick, Martha (John) Podgurski, Georgette   (Joseph) Melnick and Clara (John) Steiger.  A funeral mass will take place on Thursday, November 2, 2017 at 10 am at St Alfred’s Church, St Catharines. Lucy will then be taken home to her final resting place with her parents in Glace Bay, Cape Breton.The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Douglas Memorial Hospital and those who came to visit and help look after her. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Mount Carmel Retirement Residence through the funeral home George Darte Funeral Chapel, St. Catharines.
