Obituary of Gaetano Antonio Di Pietro

DI PIETRO, Gaetano - Passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving wife and family after a courageous battle with cancer on Saturday, October 21st, 2017 at the age of 77. Beloved husband of Marianne (nee Gentile) for 52 years. Dear brother of Francesco (Maria) Di Pietro, Filomena (the late Guiseppe) Tota, Maria (the late Angelo) Pennacchio, Grazia (the late Carmine) Di Pietro and Nicolina (Michele) Di Paola. Cherished son in law of Eleonora (the late Pasquale) Gentile. Wonderful brother in law to Joe (Matilda) Gentile and Frances (the late Vince) Lettieri. He is predeceased by his parents Concetta Di Matteo and Felice Di Pietro and his sisters Emilia (the late Gerardo) Siconolfi and Angela (the late Martino) Bernine. "Tano" was a loving uncle to his many nieces and nephews. Gaetano immigrated to Canada on August 29th,1965 with his bride Marianne where they built a life together. He was employed by Bernstein Castings for 20 years. He became self employed, running Di Pietro Homes and Cafe Venezia. He was an avid sports fan, who loved the soccer team Juventus, as well as watching Race Car Driving. Gaetano was a member of Club Guardia Lombardi. The family wishes to extend a sincere thank you to Dr. Kerley, Dr. Yelamanchili, Dr. Vandermeer and  Dr. Paolone and staff. A heartfelt thank you to all the staff at CCAC and ParaMed for their care and support. Special thanks to Nurses Alicia and Deborah for all of their care and support over the last 4 years.  The family will receive visitors at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL HOME, 585 Carlton Street, St. Catharines on Wednesday, October 25th from 2-4p.m. & 6-9p.m. Vigil Prayers will take place on Wednesday at 3p.m. in the funeral home. Funeral Mass will celebrated at St. Alfred's Church, 272 Vine Street, St. Catharines on Thursday, October 26th at 11a.m. Entombment at Victoria Lawn Cemetery to follow. Memorial donations to Hospice Niagara or Walker Family Cancer Centre would be appreciated by the family.
