Obituary of Anastasia "Alice" Choma (nee Sabina)
Choma, Anastasia "Alice" (nee Sabina) - Passed away peacefully on October 12, 2017 at the St. Catharines General Hospital at the age of 97. Predeceased by her husband Tony (1978); infant brother John; her sister Mary Pizale who also died October 12, 2017 (only a few hours later); daughter Joyce Naldjieff (2000) and her husband Dennis Naldjieff (2015). Loving mother to Eugene (Ruth Ann), Mike (the late Helen 2013), Ron (Mic) and David (Cindy). Cherished Baba to 15 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. Beloved sister to Anne Baranik (the late Mike) and brother-in-law the late Stanley Pizale. She will be fondly remembered by her many loving family members and close friends. At the young age of 8 years old, Alice made the brave trip from her country of Ukraine to Manitoba with her family. She later married and settled around 1944 in St. Catharines to start a family of her own. Alice was employed with the Niagara Catholic School Board, past president of the Ukrainian Catholic Womens League, active parishoner of St. John's Ukrainian Catholic Church - where she volunteered many hours in assisting with the church and preparing food in the kitchen. She was a hard worker and did everything to provide for her family, even cooking meals and insisting to have another plate of food.
Family and friends are invited to gather at the George Darte Funeral Home, 585 Carlton Street on Wednesday October 18, 2017 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Panachyda will take place in the funeral home at 7:30 pm on Wednesday. Divine Liturgy will take place on October 19, 2017 at St. John's Ukrainian Catholic Church, 91 Lakeshore Road at 10 am with burial to follow at Victoria Lawn Cemetery. Memorial donations may be in Alice's honour to charity of one's choice.
