DOWNES, Michael

After a lengthy and courageous battle, Michael passed away on Sunday, June 11, 2017 at the age of 71. Beloved husband of 50 years to Sandra (nee Campbell). Loving and cherished father of Deidre (Dan Van Stralen) Beam and Dayna (George) Downes-Berry. Michael was an adored papa to Devra (Kenny), Michael, Sean, Ainsley, Jenna and Kendall. Step-grandfather to Josh and Cameron. Dear brother to Sharon (Cal), Penny (Carl), the late Patsy (Don), Saundra, John (Lorraine) and Beth. He will also be sadly missed by all of his nieces and nephews. Michael worked at TRW for over 20 years and was a sheet metal worker by trade. He will be remembered for his love of family and never-ending support. Special thanks to Michael's nurse Merek for his compassion and care. Visitation will be held at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 585 Carlton St., St. Catharines on Wednesday, June 14 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A Celebration of Michael's life will take place on Thursday, June 15 at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel. Cremation to follow. If desired, memorial donations may be made to Parkinson Society Canada or the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
