To the Gale Family,
It was with a heavy heart I read of John's passing and I regret I cannot be there in person to pay my respects. I had my interview with him for a job after school in 1974, in the hallway outside of Ray's old office on James St. in the red chairs that still sit in the offices in Thorold today.
We worked on many catalogues together over the years. I loved it when he would stop by my desk and tell one of his stories from his music days. He never once refused to help me with a difficult customer question or concern and when he wrote out a reply for me I knew I was getting the best answer possible. He always imparted his knowledge enthusiastically. I learned so much from those letters and our talks.
I hope your memories of the happy times you shared together help you through this difficult time.
I will remember that smile of his with fondness.
Sincerely
Theresa

I worked at Stokes Seeds from 1974 to 1981 in the flower department. John was truly the best boss that I have ever had. I have ran into him many times since I chose to become a stay at home mom and he always made me feel special by saying that there would always be a spot there for me. Rest in peace...you deserve it.

Dear Wayne, family & staff of Stokes,
On behalf of my wife Shirley, our family and the entire staff of Vesey’s Seeds Ltd., may I express our deepest sympathy on the passing of your father John. I’m sorry that I could not be in attendance for the gathering on Friday but I can say with great certainty that there will some tremendous stories exchanged about his years in our industry and his many other interests and endeavors.
A great seeds-man, photographer, designer, horticulturist, businessman and outdoor enthusiast, seldom do we see an individual devote an entire lifetime to a single passion and industry. I share in his love of this business having joined our firm in 1956; and as you know, it really gets in your blood.
Several of our staff have had the good fortune to meet with John over his time at the helm and to a person, the reaction has always been the same…”I met John Gale, what an interesting and dedicated individual he is… amazing”
I’m sure your family will count their blessings for the many years you’ve had the privilege of having John by your side. I leave you with the heartfelt sadness we feel at this time and know that you will be strengthened by the many gifts of life he has shared with you all over time.
I think it most appropriate if we end our expression of sympathy with Brad Paisley’s words that I’m sure John would enjoy:
When I get where I'm going
There'll be only happy tears
I will shed the sins and struggles
I have carried all these years
And I'll leave my heart wide open
I will love and have no fear
Yeah, when I get where I'm going
Don't cry for me down here
With Sympathy and Respect,
Bev & Shirley Simpson

John was one of a kind and I value the time we worked together very much. I had the utmost respect for him in many ways and if someone didn't know him personally, it would be difficult to describe how genuinely charismatic he was. My sincere condolences to his family; I hope your memories of John will help you through this.

What can I say John was a huge part of my childhood. Sandra was my best friend John was always busy at Stokes seeds but he always made time for Sandra and I. He taught us how to shoot hoops and play with the team, he taught us how to carry a huge backpack and a canoe and get through the Algonkin and we were both just under 4 feet had a tire food and treason how to eat which I thought was Astor not food because it was lighter to carry on your load. I can go on anon but I think you all have stories like this. John left his chocolate turtles so did I I think now he's in a better place and he's got a full set of teeth so he can bite into that corn on the cob. So thank you because I live up north now and I grow beautiful gardens and I think a lot of that is attribute it to you John and sad that we don't reflect while the person is here but we do it when they're gone and it's kind of sad . Goodbye my friend I'll see you soon and you're right it's a much better place after you see the light

The world will not be the same without John in it. A passionate, genuine, and focused man that I was fortunate to know, to learn from, and to work with. An icon in his own right. A caretaker of so many. My love and thoughts are with the Gale family at this time of momentous loss. Paula

My deepest condolences on the passing of John. He will be sadly missed and fondly remembered. As the obituary says he introduced many to the beauty and serenity of canoeing. During the summer I turned 16 he invited me to join him, Dave, Wayne and Randy Paget on what was my first canoe trip. Our trip to Quetico Provincial Park is one of my favourite memories. I still talk about that trip to this day. Life is short but our memories are forever.

Praying for you all, sending much love from our small family, Uncle John was always so welcoming to us when we were little (my brother David and I) and would visit the old Stokes store with Mom (MaryAnne), and always had such amazing stories when we would see him at family gatherings.
