Obituary of Mary Minaker (nee Bannister)

Minaker, Mary (nee Bannister) - Passed away peacefully on January 24, 2017 at the St. Catharines General Hospital at the age of 93. Beloved wife of Norman C. Minaker (1996) for 54 years. Loving mother of Martha Abra (Keith Speck), Gweneth Minaker (Colin Hignett) and Harry Minaker (Janis Galway). Cherished Nana of Harrison Hignett (Terezinha), Steven Abra (Magdalene Krueger), Julian Minaker, Catherine Hignett Major (Daniel), Evan Minaker, Roxanne Minaker and Madelene Minaker. Adored Great Grandmother of Theodore and William Hignett and Valerie Major. In her early years, she was employed at McKinnon Industries and the St. Catharines Credit Bureau. Mary was a dedicated business teacher in several area high schools who cared greatly for her students. Throughout her 90s, Mary remained active enjoying CFUW, Lifelong Learning, and Niagara Symphony. She maintained connections with former colleagues and her many friends. The family will receive friends at the George Darte Funeral Home, 585 Carlton Street on Thursday between 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 p.m. Funeral ceremony will be held in the funeral home on Friday at 1 p.m. with cremation to follow. Private family burial will take place at a later date. Memorial donations in Mary's honour may be made to CNIB or a charity of your choice.
