Obituary
Obituary of Dr. Elmer Arthur Clarke Hagley
Elmer passed peacefully at Hospice Niagara surrounded by family on January 17, 2017 in his 87th year. Loving husband of Maureen for 54 years. Cherished father of Michael (Nicole), Karen (Chris) Huxter, Andre (Jocelyn) and Robert (Andrea). Proud grandfather of Emily, Hannah, Quinn, Alyssa, Owen, Marcus, Zachary and Joshua. Elmer is predeceased by his 5 sisters.
Elmer received his Diploma of Imperial College of Tropical Agriculture in Trinidad and later completed his MSc and PhD in Entomology from McGill University. Elmer enjoyed working closely with the farmers in the apple industry and fellow scientists around the world in Biological Pest Management, during his time at Vineland Research Station. So much so that he could often be found in the orchard with his trademark straw hat.
In keeping with Elmer's wishes, cremation has taken place. A Service of Remembrance will be held on Saturday, January 21, 2017 at 11:00am at St. George's Anglican Church, 83 Church St., St. Catharines. The family will be receiving guests from 10:30am at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice Niagara, Heart and Stroke Foundation or Alzheimers Society.
