Obituary of Carmela La Selva

LA SELVA, Carmela (Palombo) Passed away peacefully at the St. Catharines Hospital on the morning of Saturday December 17, 2016 in her 92nd year. Carmela was predeceased by her loving husband, the late Giuseppe (Joe) in 2013. Cherished mother to her three children Cecilia (George) Kwinecki, Lena (Bryan) Pringle and John (Sonia). Nonna was blessed with seven grandchildren, Joey (Saoirse) Kwinecki, Vera (David) Wan, Robert Pringle (Cristin), Carmel (Ryan) Bobyk, Laura (Matt) Mariage, Carmel and Joseph (Livia); and her great-grandchildren Maisyn, Justin, Sophia and Vivienne. Carmela was predeceased by her parents Nicola and Giovannina Palombo, and Joe's parents Giovanni and Cecilia La Selva. She was the youngest of four siblings and was predeceased by Vittoria (Settimio) De Lisio and Valentino (Serafina) of Italy; and Teresa (Domenico) De Lisio of Argentina. She is survived by Joe's siblings Antonietta (Michele) De Meo, Maria (Ernesto) Ferrante, Filomena (the late Antonio) De Lisio and Antonio (Giuseppina) La Selva, all of St. Catharines; also predeceased by her brother-in-law Nicola (Giuseppina) La Selva of Argentina. Carmela immigrated to Canada with her family in 1958 from Castellino del Biferno, Molise, Italy. She was a lifelong parishioner of St. Alfred's Church. Carmela's family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude to Linhaven for their compassionate care, and to the team at St. Catharines Hospital for going above and beyond to keep her comfortable in her last days. Carmela's family will receive visitors at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 585 Carlton Street, St. Catharines on Monday, December 19th from 2-4pm and 7-9pm. A Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated on Tuesday, December 20th at St. Alfred Catholic Church, 272 Vine Street at 11am. Entombment following in Victoria Lawn Cemetery. Vigil Prayers will be recited in the funeral home on Monday at 3:30pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Niagara Health System- the ONE Foundation, St. Catharines Site in Carmela's honour.
