Phyllis Wright

Obituary of Phyllis Mary Wright

Phyllis Mary Wright died peacefully at her home in St. Catharines on November 6, 2016 after a brave battle with cancer. Phyllis is survived by Richard B. Wright, to whom she was happily married for 51 years. She was the dearly loved mother of sons Chris (Vicki) and Andrew (Wendy). Phyllis was born at her family’s home in Barachois, Quebec on March 18, 1943. Daughter to Irvin and Annie Cotton, sister to Albert (Sharron), Terrance (Linda Madonna), Sylvia (Ken), Gerald (Susan) and Farley (Ines), Phyllis left Barachois for Montreal at the tender age of 16, eventually immigrating to Toronto where she would meet Richard at MacMillan Publishers, Inc. where they both worked. Driven and deeply curious, Phyllis, in her 30’s, received her diploma from Niagara College in library records management, and, while working at Brock University’s library, completed a Bachelor of Arts in History, a Master’s Degree in Library Science from the University of Buffalo and a Masters of Education from Brock. In her retirement, Phyllis taught Tai Chi at the Fung Loy Lok Centre in St. Catharines, and travelled extensively with Richard. Her abiding joy, though, was her grandchildren: Gage, Millie, Sydney, Abby and Nathan, all of whom will miss her warmth, love and homemade muffins. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, December 11am at the Ridley College Chapel, 2 Ridley Road, St. Catharines, Ontario. Donations would be appreciated in her memory to the Canadian Cancer Society.
