Obituary of Irene Borsato

BORSATO, Irene Put a sweater on. I’m cold. Just one of the pearls of wisdom dispensed by Irene Borsato, taken from us by cancer on October 24, 2016. The last of her family of five sisters and one brother, Irene came from Scotland as a young woman to make St. Catharines her home. It was while working at Foster Wheeler that she met and married Harry, her husband of 59 years. She also leaves behind her two loving sons and daughters-in-law Larry (Bea) and Garry (Nicole), and her beloved grandchildren Neil (Courtney), Keith (Brianna), Theo, Alexandra, and Noelle. Rather than mourn her passing we prefer to celebrate her life. Never without a notebook, Irene planned every detail and made every occasion special, replete with appropriate homemade baking, and she managed to make our family appear organized. Yet she still found boundless enthusiasm for volunteering in the community, as a Cub Scout leader, or as a 50 year member and past president of the Catholic Women's League at St. Alfred Church. She was never too busy to help others. Her wry sense of humour never left her despite her circumstances. Irene had a wide circle of extremely close friends who did their best to fill her final days with joy and provide much appreciated comfort to her family. She always felt that she received much more than she gave. If it can be said of anyone, Irene truly enjoyed a life well lived. The family will receive visitors at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 585 Carlton Street, on Thursday, October 27th from 2-4pm and 7-9pm. A Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at St. Alfred's Catholic Church, 272 Vine Street, on Friday, October 28th at 11am. Vigil Prayers will be recited in the funeral home on Thursday at 3pm.
