Obituary of Carrol Jean Shields

Shields, Carrol (nee Dunton) - Surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday October 4, 2016, passed away peacefully at the St. Catharines General Hospital at the age of 66. Beloved wife to Jim of 41 years. Best friend and mom to Lindsay (Eric) Weir and their daughter Makenna; Adam Shields and his children Jaclyn, Connor and their mother Julie. Cherished sister to Bob (Michele) Dunton, Joann (Chris) Wood, and Cheryl Dunton. Survived by her sister-in-law Betty (Ron) Borkosky and brother-in-law Bob Casson. Predeceased by her parents Stanley and Mary Dunton, brother-in-law Donald Shields, Gerald (Tanya) Shields, sister-in-law Dorothy (Steve) Danko and Margaret Casson. Carrol will be fondly remembered by many loving family members and close friends. She lived for her grandchildren and enjoyed spending as much time as she could with them. Carrol was a volunteer and a member with Wellspring Niagara for over a decade. Through her years, Carrol was an accomplished designer, artist and avid golfer who scored a hole in one! The family would like to express their gratitude for the exceptional care of our wife and mom to the nursing staff at the hospital. Family will receive friends at the George Darte Funeral Home, 585 Carlton Street on Friday between 2-4 and 7-9pm. Cremation has taken place. A time to celebrate Carrol's life will take place on Saturday at the funeral home between 3-5pm with words of remembrance to commence at 3:30pm. A private family burial will take place at a later date. After a courageous battle with cancer, the family would appreciate any donations to be made to Wellspring Niagara in Carrol's honour.
