Obituary
Obituary of Claire Grace Sommer
SOMMER, Clairissa Grace "Claire"
With the deepest of sorrow, we inform you of the passing of our sweet, sweet, beautiful Claire. She tried so hard to stay with us but slipped away quietly surrounded by her families love, hugs and tears on Tuesday, September 13th at McMaster Children's Hospital at the age of 13.
She leaves behind her loving parents Robert and Valerie, her deeply loved sister Olivia and cherished hamster "Jiggy". She was the devoted granddaughter of Clint and Jean Page, adored niece of Brian (Sharon) Page and Matt Sommer, and cousin of Kelly (Dan) Spinks and baby Oliver, Vicki (Brad) Folliott and their son Zachary, and Gina and Lucie Harris. Claire was very much loved by her "chosen" aunts Lisa Dilts and Ginette Baljeu and their families, especially Nick Dilts and Alyssa Baljeu. Predeceased by Otto Sommer and Regina Sommer. Her loss will be forever felt by her classmates from Oakridge Public School, especially Abby, Jessica and Sarah. Claire was looking forward to attending grade 9 at SWC this year. Those who knew her know how kind and generous, sweet and caring she was. She was effortlessly funny and always put others needs before her own. We could all take a lesson from her to be kinder to those around us.
The family extends sincere thanks to the Niagara Regional Police Service, NRPA, and the members of the Niagara Detachment of the OPP for their support to the family. Special thanks to the amazing team at McMaster 3Y Oncology Unit. We so appreciate your care and compassion shown to Claire. A special thank you to Leslie (Lully) Sharp and Carm vanDongen and family for sharing their time with Claire. Thank you also to Kathy, Jaylen, Romina, Nicole, Judy and Sue for their care and compassion.
Claire's family will receive visitors at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL HOME, 585 Carlton Street, St. Catharines on Sunday, September 18th from 2-4pm and 6-8pm. A ceremony to celebrate her life will be held in the funeral home on Monday, September 19th at 11:30am. Burial to follow.
If desired, memorial donations to the Ronald McDonald House (Hamilton) or the McMaster Children's Hospital- Child Life Specialists would be appreciated by the family.
