Obituary of Angelo Della Manna

DELLA MANNA ANGELO Passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on Tuesday October 25th, 2011, at the St Catharines General Hospital, in his 90th year. Predeceased by his loving wife, Vincenza (2002). Devoted father of Vito (Francesca) of St. Catharines, and Anna (Antonio) Giannetta of Italy. Cherished Nonno of Angelo (Debbie), Joe (Terri), Celeste (Giovanni), Severio (Lorita), Elio (Gerardina) and devoted great grandfather of 16. Dear brother of Merinda (the late Franco), Filomena (the late Gaetano), the late Rosa (Donato) and the late Emilia (Giulio). Brother in law of Rochina, Lucia, Tony, the late Linucia, and the late Gerardo. Angelo will be lovingly remembered by many nieces, nephews, family and friends. Born into the old world agrarian community of La Guardia dei Lombardi, he came of age during the Great Depression and was conscripted and experienced the reality of war first hand. Those experiences shaped his views, which were to lead an uncomplicated yet productive life, keeping God and family central to all things, having little patience for those that did not. His achievements may have seemed ordinary, as he was not the first to seek a better life far from home. Still, as a master storyteller, he could amaze us with tales of each road he traveled, each meal he ate, each person he met. As ordinary as it all may have been, we all laughed until we cried, honoured to have known and loved him, and be loved by him .Family and friends will be received at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL HOME, 585 Carlton St. on Thursday from 7 - 9 pm and Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Alfred's Church 272 Vine St. on Saturday at 9:30a.m. The Rite of Committal to follow at Victoria Lawn Cemetery. Vigil prayers will be celebrated in the funeral home on Friday at 3:00 p.m. Memorial donations to the St Catharines General Hospital Foundation or Club Guardia Lombardi would be appreciated by the family. The family wish to extend a heartfelt thank you to the nursing staff of 3East of the SCGH for their compassion and care.
