Sorry for your loss. We were both so sorry to hear of Gerry's passing the other night (August 23). Know that Gerry and your family are in our thoughts. Gerry was a very kind man. He made us feel very welcome in his home that time we were invited to your birthday party Brendan (the one with the ninja bike on the cake). Let us know if there is anything we can do to help you and your family.

My sincere condolences to the McCarthy family with the passing of dearest Gerald.
Being best friends with his daughter Karen, I was so fortunate to meet and spend time with such a funny, generous and kind man.
I believe, as one light is blown gently out another is lit. This candle represents a new journey for Gerry. May the McCarthy family find the strength and courage to cope with such a loss, but be comforted to know he is in a wonderful place, a new journey to begin with the Lord in heaven.
My heartfelt thoughts are with all of you.

Our deepest condolences to Brendan, Natalie, Collin and Gracie and the entire McCarthy family during this very sad time. Mr. McCarthy was such a kind, unique and memorable man and teacher and holds a special place in the hearts of all of his former students. I was lucky to have him as my grade 9 guidance teacher and can still sing the entire song of "that's what friends are for" because we had to sing it in class for one of our assignments. Mr. McCarthy never had a harsh word for anyone and always smiled at you when you came into class. You can see so much of him in his son Brendan not only in his manorisms but in his kind and generous heart. Until we meet again Mr. McCarthy. - Erin and Nathan Brown

Dear Pat and family,
We are all so fortunate to have shared some part in Gerry's life.
His example of living God's major commandment to love one another and do unto others
as you would have them do unto you.
Gerry lived that everyday whether at work or at home living a strong family life.
May God continue to bless your family now and forever.
Linda & Eugene McCarthy, Fenelon Falls, Ontario.

We lost a great teacher and counsellor in Gerry McCarthy. I was fortunate to have been Gerry's colleague and friend at Denis Morris High School, Bishop McCarthy Adult High School and the NCDSB program of Adult and Continuing Education. I witnessed first hand Gerry's positive influence to both adolescent and adult students. Gerry was blessed to have a way in relating and understanding students of all ages. Over the past decades one song that always brings back memories of Gerry is the song by Simple Minds, "Don't you (forget about me)". Back in the mid 1980's Gerry produced what was then a ground breaking promotional video on DM using the Simple Minds song as the background music. I believe it was the first promotional video for a high school in Ontario that utilized at that time this groundbreaking medium. How ironic that if one could produce a highlight reel of Gerry's life and academic career this same song would be perfect as background music. I will miss you Gerry as a friend, former colleague and brother in arms supporting our beloved Habs. You will always be, "La premiere etoile".

I had the pleasure of being taught by Gerry at Denis Morris High School, but it was much later when my husband was taught English in Adult Continuing Education that his teaching skills peaked the interest of my husband. We both got to know Gerry on a personal and professional level.
He was a caring, compassionate man! I was the fortunate one to meet him again and get to know him as an adult! God bless all of you.
Sincerely Donna and Joe Couture

Dear McCarthy family, I am so deeply sadden for the loss of this extraordinary human being. Mr McCarthy was my English teacher at Denis Morris High school 37 years ago. I have never forgotten my favourite teacher. If you were a student of his you must surely remember his "do flicker and black plague" system, for right or wrong answers or behavoir. He was a funny, kind and caring teacher who really made you want to and enjoy learning.I am sure he will be missed by everyone who's lives he touched. My deepest sympathies to his family who were so blessed to have him as the head of their family. I know that God welcomed him with open arms into his eternal home.

Thoughts and prayers to Mr. McCarthy and his family. I was a student at Denis Moris in the 80's and was fortunate to have Gerry for amy math teacher. I was a challenge for him but he was that ONE teacher that was able to get through to me and make me love a subject I disliked because I struggled. He brought humour to our class and made an impact on my life...Thank you...he will be missed.
