Obituary of Willis Hayward McCabe

McCABE, Willis Passed away peacefully with family by his side on Saturday, July 30th, 2016 at the age of 92. Willis was predeceased by his wife and companion of 68 years, Audrey (2012), son Clyde (1975) and daughter Shirley (1949). Willis will be forever missed by his 5 sons Max (Vera) St. Catharines, George (Jeanette) Chapleau, ON, Ron (Pat) St. Catharines, Dave (Debbie) St. Catharines, Glenn (Kelly) Sundridge, ON, and five daughters, Linda Traverse (Chesley) Corner Brook, NF, Phyllis Ferry (Len) Thorold, Irene Clarke (Jack) Edmonton, AB, Judy Richard (Jamie) Niagara on the Lake, Dee Patterson (Morgan) St. Catharines. Also survived by 32 Grandchildren, 55 Great Grandchildren, 14 Great Great Grandchildren and brother John, St. John's, NF. Willis was born in Bell Island, NF, son of James and May McCabe. Known affectionately as Dad and Pop or Poppy, he taught us the importance of having humour and laughter in our lives along with determination and perseverance to give it all you have to the end. He was extremely proud of his very large extended family and he will be sadly missed by all. We would like to extend our gratitude to his long time family physician, Dr. J.F. Adams, Dr. B. Leonard and nurses at the Walker Cancer Centre and to the CCAC, Saint Elizabeth and VON Nurses and ParaMed PSW's for all of their assistance and support. The family will be receiving friends at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 585 Carlton Street, St. Catharines on Tuesday, August 2nd from 2-4pm and 7-9pm. A service to celebrate his life will be held on Wednesday, August 3rd at 1pm in the funeral home chapel followed by interment at Lakeview Cemetery, Thorold, ON. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Walker Cancer Centre would be appreciated by the family.
