Obituary of John "Starzy" Starrs

STARRS, John “Starzy” It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of John on Tuesday, May 31, 2016 at the Hotel Dieu Shaver Hospital, at the age of 59, after a courageous battle with brain cancer. Devoted and loving husband of Rosemary (nee Zeoli) and beloved father of Eric (Krystal Hale) and Raymond (Jen Gorda). Cherished son of Elizabeth and the late Bernard Starrs Sr. and son-in-law of Maria and the late Anthony Zeoli. Dear brother of Joseph (Patti), Maureen (Bill) Scott, Bernie (Marie), Liz (John) Klassen, Gerard (Tracey), Vincent (Yvonne) and brother-in-law of John (Andrea) Zeoli, Jim (Angela) Zeoli and Carmen Zeoli. John leaves behind many cousins, nieces, nephews, and many friends and neighbours. Special nephew to Margaret and Errol Brown. From an early age, John lived an active life spending many hours cycling, golfing, travelling, reading and listening to music. His favourite times were spent on the deck with his family and friends, especially with the addition of his “daughters”. John was a GM (Glendale Plant) retiree and also worked at Niagara Bouquet (post retirement). Many thanks for the compassionate care from CCAC, ParaMed Home Care, Hotel Dieu Shaver (Dr. Arvinte, C2W Nursing Staff and Sister Louise), Dr. A. Torres of Juravinski, Hamilton and his family physician Dr. K. Alnhisi. In accordance with John’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Family and friends will be received at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 585 Carlton Street, St. Catharines on Thursday, June 2, from 1-4 p.m. and 6-9 p.m. Vigil Prayers will be held in the funeral home at 8 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Alfred’s Church, 272 Vine Street, on Friday, June 3, 2016 at 11 a.m. Inurnment to follow Mass, at Victoria Lawn Cemetery. Memorial donations may be given to the Hotel Dieu Shaver Health and Rehabilitation Foundation or to the charity of one’s choice.
