Joseph Divok

Obituary of Joseph Divok

DIVOK, Joseph – March 24 1931- May 29 2016. "My Way" is the best way to describe Joe "Jay" Divok. Joe's love of Jazz Music was only surpassed by his love for his wife Shirley of 46 years. Joe answered to no one. Born in Montreal, Joe spent his early years in Timmins. Son of the late Michael and Karoline. Survived by sister Goldie Washuta, nieces Shelley Martin (Barry), Holly Washuta , nephew Gary Washuta (Patti) and 5 great-nieces. Joe moved to St. Catharines in 1946. He attended St. Catharines Collegiate and obtained a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Toronto where he was the President of the Blue & White Society. He married his sweetheart, Shirley Bond. Joe worked in the Real Estate, Restaurant and Travel Business. He enjoyed travelling the world and playing golf. Joe was the one and only President of the Niagara Jazz Club. Joe enjoyed listening to jazz at Cat's Caboose on a Saturday afternoon with his friends. Joe will never be forgotten, for every time you hear jazz music, you will remember Joe “Jay” Divok, also known as “Jazz”. The family will receive visitors at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 585 Carlton Street, St. Catharines on Thursday, June 2nd from 5-9p.m. Funeral Service will take place on Friday, June 3rd at 11a.m. in the funeral home chapel.
