Robert Kent MacLellan
October 3, 1942 - May 12, 2016.
After a long valiant battle with cancer, it is with deep sadness that we announce the death of Robert (Bob) MacLellan, at St. Catharines General Hospital. He is survived by his partner, Rory Jiang; sister, Heather Miller, (Jim), Summerland, BC; nieces, Nina Bryson (Darren),Vancouver; Nicole Carlyle, (Matthew),Vancouver; Kirkwood cousins in Welland, Kerry, Karen (Newton), Brenda (Stanicki),Scott, and longtime faithful friends who were like family, Chris and Susan McLaughlin and Alexandra Sawchuck. Robert is pre-deceased by his father Russell MacLellan (1968) and Mother, Erva Kent MacLellan (2012). "Uncle Bob” will be sadly missed by his great nieces and nephews, Kayla, Jackson, Bryson, Avery, Emmitt and Coleman, all of Vancouver.
Robert was a lifelong resident of McNab, and St. Catharines. He taught for many years for the District School Board of Niagara elementary school, specializing in French. He also spent several years teaching in Lahr, Germany where he travelled extensively.
Robert started his military career as a Sea Cadet at Grantham High School and continued on as a member of the Lincoln and Welland Military Regiment, spending many summers at reserve military training camps around the country.
Robert carried on the MacLellan Scottish tradition as a piper, playing in the St. Catharines Police band, Thorold pipe band and he later played extensively for private engagements. Robert was an avid student of history, music and languages. He spent several summers studying Gaelic in Scotland and learning about MacLellan family history. Robert was a very generous soul, loved meeting and engaging people, and was delighted when former students would stop and talk with him.
We give special thanks for the attentive and longtime care of Dr. Shultz and staff, Dr. Ryerse, CCAC Palliative and Hospice Teams who provided extensive support, the Medical staff at Juravinski Hospital, and Medical and Nursing staff at St. Catharines General Hospital. We also thank the many friends and relatives who visited and sent caring greetings during Robert’s long illness.
