Obituary of Shirley Iftody

IFTODY, Shirley It saddens us to announce the passing of our dear mother Shirley Iftody on May 10, 2016 in her 82nd year. Mom fought a courageous battle over the past 16 years and has now found solitude in a new home. Predeceased by husband Bill. Loving mother of Laurie (Roy Kerling), Tom Iftody(Kathy) and Nancy(Wayne Ross), cherished grandmother of Mathew, Kaitlin, Blake, Lindsay, Tommy, Kendra and Jacob. Survived by brother Alec Moskal, sister Julie Strilisky and many nieces and nephews. She was retired as the Executive Secretary to the President of the St. Catharines General Hospital and a member of St. Denis Parish and CWL. An avid sports fan, she loved to watch hockey, baseball and horse racing. But most of all she along with dad would rarely miss any of the grandchildren's activities which have provided them great memories over the years. One day before what would have been their 58th wedding anniversary, her one true love, soul mate and best friend, Bill, couldn't wait any longer to celebrate a new beginning with him. Mom, we know you are in a better place, watching over us from above and occasionally jolting us with a fleeting memory of wonderful days gone by. We love you and will miss you immensely. Special thanks to Dr. Chauhan and Dr. Hughes for their care as well as the many nurses and staff at the NHS St. Catharines. Shirley's family will receive friends at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL HOME 585 Carlton Street on Thursday, May 12th from 2-4pm and 7-9pm. Funeral Liturgy will be held at St. Denis Roman Catholic Church, 230 Lake Street on Friday, May 13th at 11am. Rite of Committal to follow in Victoria Lawn Cemetery. Vigil Prayers will be recited in the funeral home on Thursday at 8pm. If desired, memorial donations to Hospice Niagara would be appreciated by the family.
