EVANS, Elizabeth (“Betty”) O’Connell - Peacefully at the Niagara Health System, St. Catharines, ON, on March 15, 2016, our dearest mother died in her 92nd year, beloved wife of the late Dr. Daniel (Danny) A. Evans; cherished mother of Nancy and her husband Craig Draper and their children John, David and his wife Lyndsey McDraper and their daughter Meghan (Oshawa), Ann Evans and her son Paul Malczak (Ft. Lauderdale, Florida), Mary Ellen and her husband Bob Chown and their children Danny, Erin and Andrew (Oakville), Janet and her husband John Lee and their sons Brendan and Justin (Regina), and her son Mark Evans (Toronto). Born in Ottawa to Henry (“Harry”) and Mary Battle, Betty was predeceased by her brothers Msgr. Rev. Lawrence Battle, Justin Battle and his wife May, Ernest Battle and his wife Fran, and David Battle; and by sisters Noreen McCooey and her husband Lt. Col. Larry McCooey, Barbara Fairley and her husband George, and Patricia Beaudry. Also predeceased by brothers-in-law The Hon. Gregory T. Evans and his wife Zita, Judge Joseph Evans and his wife Annette, Gerald Evans and his wife Joan, Hugh Boyle, and sister-in-law Blanid Cranny and her husband Jim; and by her beloved grandson Peter Malczak. She is also survived by her brother-in-law Austin Evans and sister-in-law Agnes Boyle. She was a dear aunt to many nieces and nephews and their families and will also be greatly missed by many close friends in St. Catharines, Ontario, and Venice, Florida. Betty was a woman of deep faith, and family was at the centre of her life. She was also an accomplished artisan and lived her life with grace and style. Family and friends are invited to GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 585 Carlton St., on Sunday, March 20, 2016, for Visitation from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., and for Vigil prayers from 4:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. A Catholic Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Julia Roman Catholic Church on Monday, March 21 at 11:00 a.m., and Rite of Committal will be at Victoria Lawn Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy, donations in Betty’s name may be made to the Hotel Dieu Shaver Health and Rehabilitation Foundation, 541 Glenridge Avenue, St. Catharines, ON, L2T 4C2.
