Obituary of John C. Vanderlee

VANDERLEE, John C. It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of a wonderful man at the age of 87 on Thursday, March 3, 2016. He is the cherished husband and best friend of 60 years to Germaine. Beloved Father of the late Corry -2015 (Lois), Mary-Louise (Ron), Larry (Patty), Shirley (Rod) Marriott, Carolyn (Normand) Roy and John (Megan). Loving Papere to 16 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. John will be sadly missed by his siblings Cor (the late Mary), Corry (Kurt) Splitt, Henk (Hilda), Toni (Trudi), Afra Beroud, Alphonse, Tini, Ben and Pete (Marg). He will be missed by many other extended family members and friends. Predeceased by his loving parents Cornelius and Afra and his sisters Vera (the late Pete) Stroomer and Margaret (Tom) Rietveld. John was born in the Netherlands and came to Canada at the age of 22. He retired from General Motors at the age of 52 and has been a fresh air inspector ever since. He was a proud member of St. Denis Church and the Knights of Columbus. For many years, John enjoyed going out every Thursday night with Germaine to dance and listen to open mic at Club LaSalle and Saturdays at the Canadian Corps in Thorold. The family would like to thank the awesome staff at the Greater Niagara General Hospital for their attentive care and compassion. In accordance with John's wishes, cremation has taken place. His family will receive guests at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 585 Carlton St., on Sunday, March 6, 2016 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Vigil prayers will take place in the funeral home at 3 p.m. on Sunday. A Memorial Service will take place in the funeral home chapel on Monday, March 7, 2016 at 11 a.m. A private family Inurnment will take place at a later date. Memorial donations can be made to a charity of your choice.
