Obituary of Iwan Kardasz

KARDASZ, Iwan Passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Monday, February 29, 2016, at the age of 91 at St. Catharines General Hospital. Predeceased by his wife Sofia. He is survived by his children Anna (David) Dodds and Peter (Darka) Kardasz, grandchildren Andrea, Katherine, Mark and Natalie. Iwan will be remembered by his brother Dmytro and family in Ukraine, as well as his late sister Zonia's family in Ukraine and Italy. Iwan and Sofia were active members of the Ukrainian communities and will be fondly remembered by their friends and acquaintances in Lachine, Montreal and St. Catharines. Iwan was a proud Canadian and a fervent Ukrainian nationalist who ached for the plight of Ukraine. Iwan's family will receive guests at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 585 Carlton St., on Wednesday, March 2, 2016 from 6:30-9 p.m. Panachyda will be held in the funeral home Wednesday night at 7 p.m. A Divine Liturgy will be held at Sts. Cyril and Methodius Ukrainian Catholic Church, 14 Rolls Ave., at 10 a.m. on Thursday, March 3, 2016. A Rite of Committal will take place at St. Volodymyr Cemetery, 1280 Dundas St. W. Oakville. Memorial donations can be made to the Sts. Cyril and Methodius Church Building Fund.
