Robert and I go back 34 years to 1981 when we first met in Vancouver BC. Robert recruited me for a position with Mainland Industrial supply and we have remained friends since that time. Robert and Janet moved to langley BC in the early 80’s from Bowen Island buying a small 5 acreage parcel near the US Border. One of Robert’s passions in life would be to scoot across the border get cheap US gas and a 12 pack of beer.
Robert delivered to us a beautiful lamb retriever pup that we named Bonnie. He hoped that Bonnie would help us recover from the loss of our Dog Princess. Bonnie did bring a lot of joy back into our lives. Robert was one of rare people who after you spent a little time with him or spoke to him on the phone you always went away feeling good.
Later Robert and Janet decided to sell the acreage and move to Ontario. Robert and Janet stayed with us for several days before making the long trip to Ontario. I only saw Robert once after that when he came by for a visit around 1990; we were still living on our 3 acre parcel in Langley.
Robert was one of those people who had a heart of gold plus a real zest for life. He was a character who was introduced to jeans and cowboy boots by Janet encouraging him to take on a more relaxed persona as opposed to his business attire. In fact it seemed to me he was becoming a real country cowboy. I remember attending the Coverdale Rodeo Western Dance with Robert and Janet and my wife Eleanor. We had a blast.
Over the years we stayed in touch by phone. Robert would give me a call when he was in one of his melancholy moods; usually late at night after 12 am Ontario time and we would chat for upward of an hour usually about everything and anything including politics. He loved his children and they were always mentioned in his conversation along with his wife Janet.
The last time I spoke to Robert was earlier this year when I talked to him about our move to the Shuswap area of BC, deciding to build a new home for us as part of my retirement plan. He said He would try to talk Janet in to making a trip out West and would bring his hammer to help me.
It is with great sadness that we heard of his passing on New Year’s Eve 2015 and thinking of the loss to Janet and his family.
Robert will always be in our thoughts as a great friend and we treasure the time we had with him and Janet.

Robert and I go back to 1997, when I first retired from the military and newly located to St.Catharines..... I met him by answering an ad he had placed for Melalueca.... my wife (Dinah) also sold Melaleuca products, so I called him up....we chatted for a good length of time and then even longer when he found out that I had served.... He sure loves us military guys.
Robert placed me in numerous jobs, for which my family is truly grateful....He was more than just someone that I knew, if I was looking for work....he was like family. He attended my father's funeral.... he was with me when I was awarded the "Commanders Commendation Certificate".... ..and he also attended when I was awarded the "Queen's Silver Jubilee Medal", presented to me by Rick Dykstra...
Many relaxing hot summer days spent by "Lake Jordanne"...... (the backyard pool)....
I will miss you more than you can possibly know, Rob.
Love ya buddy!

Dear Janet and Jordanne
We just want you to know how deeply saddened we are on the passing of dear Robert. He was a wonderful man and we were proud to call him our friend and will miss him very much.
We will never forget all that he (and you and Jordanne) did for our family. You took us into your home on our arrival here in Canada and became our Canadian family. We could never had made it through that difficult time without all of you, nor could we ever repay all that you did for us, but hope we can be of assistance with anything in honour of his memory.
We have lost the kindest, most compassionate and gentlest person we have ever had the privilege to know, a true gentleman, and we certainly never heard an ill word spoken of him. Sadly, there are few people like this in the world today.
Please extend our sympathy to your entire family and let them know how much we share their pain at this sad time.
Go well, goed gaan, hamba kahle
In friendship and sorrow....
Durinda, Stephen and Michelle

The World lost a wonderful man. Robert was more than a friend he was Family to me. We will still exist in this plane without him and have solice in knowing that Robert will be preparing the afterworld for his friends. I will fondly remember our time together and discussions of Sir Winston Churchill. If I have one regret it is knowing I didn't have the opportunity to say goodbye.
