Karen, my heartfelt condolences on your moms' passing and my apologies for missing the visitation as I just learned of it today. Your moms' obituary brought on a flood of Simcoe school day memories that included hanging out at your moms' place. Whether it was with Scott Hutley and gang or just myself, your mom always had a smile for us to ensure we knew that we were always welcome. Allison, I only knew you as the cool older sister and that Karen thought quite highly of you - naturally my condolences to you and family. Karen, glad to read in one of the other condolences that your mom loved Italy. I have to now wonder if she was fond of me because of my name! Be well. Best regards.

My memories of Bette go quite far back. Eddie Bourke, (who was my husband). He passed away in 1992. He absolutely adored Bette. He used to talk about all her accomplishments and there were many. I became rather jealous of her even though I had yet to meet her. That day finally came. She invited Eddie and I to her home. That is when I found out everything Eddie had said was true - I found her friendly, outgoing, and a hostess no one could match ever! I immediately liked her.
Over the years since then, I depended on Bette for her fabulous recipes - she sent me many. I always insisted they be very easy and she would do just that!
Over the many years later, Wayne and I visited Bette often - we were always welcomed with open arms and warm heart along with a huge smile.
I don't think anyone who has ever met Bette could ever forget her and I know I never will. I will continue to try and live up to her cooking skills - she might be watching me over my shoulder.
I will miss her deeply,
Stellina

I remember Betty MacAlpine. She would light up the room with her presence and make you feel alive. Betty was a classmate of my sister, Norma. I had the distinct impression that she could keep Wayne and Glenn.

We had the pleasure of having Liz as our neighbour and friend for the past 19 years. She always was a joy to be around. Her talks about Italy and borrowing her wonderful books on travel were most valuable when we travelled to Italy. She was willing to help in any way possible. She will be missed. Our condolences to the family.

Mrs. Rothmel was a gifted and inspiring teacher. My daughter Alison blossomed under her tutelage in the Gifted Program at Niagara District and I was very sad when a job change meant a move that would take Alison away from the Program and its amazing teacher. Elizabeth Rothmel was an impressive role model for intellectual women with inquiring, curious minds and a passion to learn and I am grateful that Alison came into her orbit.

My deepest condolences to the family on Elizabeth's passing. I was a student of hers in the Gifted Program at NDSS in the mid-1990's. She was an inspiration to me and so many others. She was a major influence and inspiration in my life. I am now a teacher, and she continues to be a role model in my life. Thank you, Mrs. Rothmel, for everything. You will be missed.

We will certainly miss Aunt Bette. Like my father and Uncle Glenn, she exuded an infectious 'joie de vivre" coupled with a clever sense of humour that was certainly inherited from both Grandpa and Grandma MacAlpine. A culinary master, an avid reader, an aficionado on everything Italy! - when I travelled to Italy a few years back, I called up then visited Aunt Bette for some tips. She was kind enough to provide a 3-page email with places to see and things to do.
I have always known her to be a "people person" and this is evidenced by the many beautiful notes of condolence from her many friends, colleagues and former students.
My condolences go out to Allison, Karen & Bobby during this difficult time.
Love,
Brian & Kaitlyn MacAlpine

What a sweetie Mrs Rothmel was. Always making opportunities to believe more in myself and constantly urging me to keep the whole world open. I learned more from her as my gifted teacher in one year than the sum total of my professors in university. I travelled and never gave up because she instilled those values.
A treasure and a gem she will always have a cherished place in my heart. xox

Betty burst onto the Lincoln County scene in the 1980’s and took us all by storm with her quick intelligence and incredible passion for life. Her exuberance extended into the classroom, and hundreds of students have been the lucky beneficiaries. My condolences to her family and many friends. Mrs. Rothmel was always the kind of person who would make my whole week when I saw her....which was always too rare for me.
I met her in 2002 when she become one of the founding members of the Walker's Creek Neighbourhood Association. With us, she shared her ideas, passions, her wealth of knowledge and her sense of humour.
She always brought good insight and was a person who just radiated a calm dedication to doing the right thing. She as always such a pleasure to speak with....she'll be missed. And it was so kind of her to allow me to put my election sign on her lawn.....that's a huge honour that I have truly appreciated. And yes, what a house too..loved it!
I offer my deepest condolences to her family and friends on the loss of such a remarkable lady. May warm and happy memories comfort your hearts in the days ahead,

Zoe se sas, as the Greeks say. I owe my life to Mrs. Rothmel (E.R. as I used to call her), and that is not an exaggeration. She helped me through some powerfully bad times, and I appreciate every effort she made to keep me going to school and to see me graduate. Having been shuffled from school to school, I have met my fair share of enrichment teachers, but E.R. was hands down the best Smartie Kid teacher. Ever. Thank you for everything.

What an amazing woman. Whether you knew her as Elizabeth, Betty or Liz - as I did - she had a big , generous and loving spirit that was hard to keep up to. She was my neighbour, friend and confidant. I was always impressed with her ability to remember and process information on any topic. She will always be in my heart and I will remember her every time that I have a glass of Pinto Grigio or plant something in our garden.

I am deeply sorry for the sudden loss of your Mother.
Though I have never met her I know that she must have been very proud of you. It is every mother's fondest hope to raise children who become caring, considerate, wonderful adults and in your case her hopes and dreams must have been met and surpassed.
Take care of yourself and those who grieve with you.

Auntie Liz watched over my brother and I from across the street. She was our neighbour but also family. I loved going to her house and sitting in her exquisitely decorated living room and having our grownup chats over tea. Liz would also be my go-to for my summer reading list and I was always in awe of her shelves and shelves (and shelves) and books. She was a dear dear friend to my mom and she will be so missed on Sunnyside.
Rest now, Auntie Liz. You are loved and missed.

To the Rothmel Family. I was saddened to learn of the passing of your Mom, Gramma, great Gramma, Sister, sister-in law.
Betty and I both taught Home Economics/Family Studies at BCI. We both had a special camaraderie not only with each other , but many Special students that would frequent the Family studies office on quite a regular basis. We also had a special camaraderie with a special Genlteman ( Vp ) the late Charlie Brown with whom the students were exceptionally fond. Betty has left her mark on many Brantford students over the years. She will be sorely missed. RIP Betty.
