Obituary of Charlie "Cheapskate Charlie" Poirier
Poirier, Charles
OCT 28, 1942 - AUG 31, 2015
Charles Poirier, born in Sydney, Nova Scotia, residing in St. Catharines, passed away peacefully at the age of 73, on his own terms in his home on Monday, August 31st with his wife and family by his side. Charlie was well known and respected in the community as "Cheapskate Charlie". If you ever had a yard sale or visited the Lincoln Flea Market, then you were sure to have met the most incredible selfless man that we all knew and adored - Chuckie. Although he was always looking to make a quick buck, he never lost focus on helping the less fortunate and would literally give them his shoes, pants & shirt off his back if he felt you needed the help. Yep, he'd go naked if he thought he was helping you! Charlie worked for Ferranti Packard for 35 years where he joyfully retired from. Back in the day he was an active Board Member, Coach and Spectator of the C.Y.O. Hockey league. He also coached and was a huge fan of his talented children & grandchildren in their many sports which also included Baseball, Ringette, Lacrosse and Soccer. He leaves behind the love of his life, his fiery redhead and amazing caregiver, Sharon of 41 years. Charlie is also survived by his 6 children - Charlene & The Late Rob Wilson, Darren Martin (Kristen), Cherie Bernard (Lyle), Lise Martin (Kevin), Charmaine Poirier (Rocco) and Steve & Andrea Poirier. He worshipped his grandchildren Alicia, Megan, Noah, Ryan, Jackson, Isabelle, Kali, Elizabeth, Easton, Rylan, Cowen, Calla, Damonte, Leah & Jamie. He was looking forward to the arrival of his 16th grandchild. Charlie is also survived by his siblings, Alphonse, Johnny, Marie, Patsy, Carol, James, Ronnie & Phil. He touched the hearts of his in-laws Pam (Leo), Larry (Linda), Terry (Jackie). He has been reunited at Heaven's gate with his Mother Cecilia Peters, Father Richard Poirier and Step Father Leo Sampson, Mother-in-law Lorraine Werezak, Son-In-law Robert Wilson and nephews David Dawdy & Isiah Wilson and his Uncle Bernie Peters. At this time we would like to extend a huge Thank You to Dr. Huma Qawi & Dr. Bukari, Emily and the staff that took care of him with grace and dignity. The Walker Cancer Clinic is overflowing with many nurses that do their best to make your reason for being there forgotten. In keeping with Charlie's wishes, cremation has taken place. Family and friends will be received at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 585 Carlton St., St. Catharines on Monday, September 7 from 7-9 p.m. and Tuesday, September 8 from 10-11:30 a.m. A Celebration of Charlie's life will follow in the funeral home chapel at 11:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice Niagara. A luncheon of laughter and stories will be provided at the Bill Burgoyne Arena - Upstairs located at 129 Linwell Road, immediately following the service.
