Peacefully at the Hamilton General Hospital, following a short illness, Derwyn went to meet those who had gone before †" his mother Hilda (nee Nash), father Alfred and brothers, David, Keith and Edward.
Derwyn leave behind his loving wife of sixty years, Helen (nee Horeczy) and his five children Mark, Anne Grant (Irene), Susan (Janice) and Lorne. He is survived by his four grandchildren, Laura (Justin), Kevin, Rae, and Kahlan.
Derwyn was a 37 year member of the Masonic Lodge. Among his many roles in the Lodge, he was the master of Niagara No 2 in 1982, Master of Temple No. 296 in 1995, a member of St. Andrews No. 616 and Heritage No. 730. He became a Rite Worshipful bro in 2000 when he was elected as Grand Registrar for the Grand Lodge of Canada in right of Ontario. Derwyn was conferred as a 33rd degree mason in 2004, and was also active in the Rose Croix of the Scottish Rite.
In his early years, Derwyn volunteered his time with Scouts Canada and, later in life, devoted his time to pursuing a new passion. Golf. He was a member of the Niagara-On-The-Lake golf club for several years.
Cremation has already taken place. The family will host a visitation at Geo. Darte†™s Funeral Home, 585 Carlton St. St. Catharines on Saturday June 11th, 2011 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Columba†™s Anglican Church, 7 St. Columba Dr. St. Catharines, on Monday June 13th, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. In Lieu of Flowers, the family requests donations to St. Columba Church or the Charity of your choice.
