Obituary of Antin Konyt
KONYT, Antin "Tony"
After a long illness, Antin returned into the arms of God on Thursday, February 19th.
Beloved husband for 53 years of Natalia and dear father of Terry (Wendy), Lesia (Anthony) and Irena. Devoted Dido of Anthony "Antosho", Alexandrya "Lalee", Tiana and Andrew. Survived by his 3 brothers and 2 sisters in Ukraine, and many nieces and nephews.
Born in Ukraine, Antin came to Canada from Germany in 1949 after fighting for 3 years for Ukrainian Army to find freedom and begin a new life.
Antin was a lifelong and dedicated parishioner and Cantor at Sts. Cyril and Methodius Ukrainian Catholic Church, secretary of B.U.C. and MUNO, and Bandurist with the first ensemble in Canada. He was a member of the Toronto Ukrainian Choir Prometey and Homin in St. Catharines.
He was a retiree from General Motors after 37 years.
The family extends sincere and heartfelt thanks to Dr. Gruber for his commitment, compassion, dedication and for saving his life countless times. May God bless him and his family. Big thanks to Dr. Anna Kobylecky for taking great care of Antin. Thanks to Dr. Buetow for her ongoing support for Antin, as well as CCAC for their care-Anna, Dely, Liz and Andrea. Special thank you to St. Catharines Hospital and their staff. Thank you to everybody, also our neighbours and friends who supported us.
Mr. Konyt's family will receive visitors at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 585 Carlton Street, St. Catharines on Sunday, February 22nd from 7-9pm and Monday, February 23rd from 2-4pm and 6-8pm. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated on Tuesday, February 24th at Sts. Cyril and Methodius Ukrainian Catholic Church, 14 Rolls Avenue at 10:30am. Burial to follow in Victoria Lawn Cemetery. Panachyda will be recited in the funeral home on Sunday and Monday evening at 7pm.
If desired, memorial donations to the Sts. Cyril and Methodius Building Fund, Medical Help for Ukraine or Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA) would be appreciated by the family.
