Obituary of Mildred "Betty" Merrick

MERRICK, Mildred "Betty" (nee McArthur)Passed away peacefully in the presence of her loving family on Thursday, October 23, 2014 at the age of 87, to be with her Lord and Saviour. Betty has been reunited with her husband of 63 years, Louis. Much loved mother of Rick (Linda), Betty-Lou (Al) Humphreys, Bob (Colleen), Louis Jr. (Joanne), Jean (Ron) Roessner and Jim (Dawn). Cherished Grandma to Renee (Dave), Michael (Laura), Karyne (Wes), Jeremie, Alicia, Emily, Steven, Claire, Peter (Becky), Richard, Rachel, Kailey and Justin. Great-grandma to Jackson, Xavier, Gabriel, Adrien and Kenna. Dear sister of Janet (Denny), Margaret (the late Bill), Jean (Fred) and Sam. Betty will be remembered by many nieces, nephews and friends. Predeceased by her parents Sam and Allison McArthur, by her sister Marj (Bill) and by her brother Donald. Survived by her in-laws Patricia (Jim), Don (Donna), Sandy (Roland), Florence (the late Charles) and Pearl (the late Arthur). Predeceased by Edna (Murton), Rita (Peter), Carmen, Gordon (Katherine) and Nicholas. Betty was passionate about her faith, family and friends. She was an avid gardener and her home was a gathering place for prayer and fellowship. Her life was dedicated to her Lord and Saviour, "My sincere desire is to know His will and be empowered to do it each day"- Betty. Betty will be remembered by everyone whose lives she touched. A special thank you to the staff at Linhaven for their care and compassion. In accordance with Betty's wishes, cremation has taken place. Betty's family will receive friends at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 585 Carlton St., on Monday, October 27, from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. A memorial service to celebrate Betty's life will take place at the Church of the Good Shepherd, now located on 677 Niagara St., on Tuesday, October 28, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. As an expression of sympathy, donations made to "Shelter -VT1503-03A" (to build homes in El Salvador) or Linhaven Home for the Aged, would be appreciated by Betty's family.
