Obituary of Jessie Short

SHORT, Helen Janet Wright 'Jessie' - In her 79th year, passed away peacefully on July 24th, 2014 at Linhaven Home with her family at her side and into glory with her Lord and Saviour. Loving wife to John for 54 years. Loving mother to Ryan (Catherine). Jessie leaves her siblings: Sarah (the late Fred), the late Bill (Anne), Tam (Margaret), Pete (Elsie) and Ian (Nan). Born in Ayrshire, Scotland and the second youngest of 6, Jessie was the pearl of the family. John and Jessie immigrated to Canada in 1963. An avid competitor in Judo, Jessie earned her Brown Belt in 1969. Jessie's focus turned to Ryan, staying home during his elementary school years to be an amazing mum. She was also a wonderful honourary 'mum' to many of Ryan's friends. The family will receive friends at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL HOME, 585 Carlton Street, St. Catharines, ON on Monday, July 28th from 2-4p.m. and 7-9p.m. Funeral Service to be held at SCOTTLEA GOSPEL CHAPEL, 500 Scott Street, St. Catharines ON on Tuesday, July 29th at 11:00a.m. Burial at Niagara Lakeshore Cemetery to follow. Many thanks to all of the staff of Linhaven Nursing Home for their care and compassion during Jessie's stay. The family requests that memorial donations be made to the Roy T. Adams Centre for Dementia Care.
