Obituary of Betty Jean Gillen

GILLEN, Betty Jean (nee Moyer) Passed away peacefully at Bella Senior Care Residence on Thursday, June 5th, 2014 at the age of 90. Beloved wife of the late Dr. Donald Henry Gillen (1997). Much loved mom of Randy (Tina), Rod (Lynne) and Darlene. Cherished grandma and nana of Ashley (Manny), Whitney, Michael (Tammy), and Ryan (Melissa), and great-grandma of Lucas, Jordan, and Victoria. Predeceased by her sister Minna and her brothers Morris, Spencer and Stuart. Betty was born and raised in Vineland, and grew up on a farm now known as Vineland Estates Winery. She will be remembered for her impish sense of humour, her love of music and animals, and her devotion to her husband and children. She was an avid curler and golfer, and a member of the St. Catharines Golf & Country Club. Betty had a gift and passion for playing the piano and organ. She spent many nights playing at Knox Presbyterian Church for the Out of the Cold program. In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place. Family and friends will be received at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 585 Carlton St., St. Catharines on Tuesday, June 10th from 7-9 p.m. A Celebration of Betty's life will take place at Knox Presbyterian Church, 53 Church St., St. Catharines on Wednesday, June 11th at 1:30 p.m. Reception to follow at the St. Catharines Golf & Country Club, 70 Westchester Avenue. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Niagara or Knox Presbyterian Church - Out of the Cold program.
