Obituary of Emilia Smal

SMAL, Emilia After a short illness, Emilia peacefully passed away on Sunday, May 25, 2014, at St. Joseph's Health Centre, Toronto, at the age of 86. Emilia was predeceased by her husband Vladymir "Walter" (2010). Loving mother of Irene and Steve (Halina) and grandmother of Conrad and Martin. Also survived and missed by her niece Halina (Eddie) Wawszkiewicz, nephew Bogdan Szelemej, cousin Ola Klimtchak and by their families, and extended families in Ukraine and Poland. Emilia was born in Western Ukraine and came to Canada in 1959. Emilia was active in the Ukrainian community and will be remembered for her work with Ukrainian Canadian Social Services and Ukrainian Non-Profit Homes. Emilia also personally advocated for sponsorship of new comers to Canada. A special thank you to the CCAC St. Catharines and to the staff of Ivan Franko for their care and support. Emilia's family will receive visitors at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 585 Carlton Street, St. Catharines on Friday, May 30, 2014 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m., with Panachyda held at 8 p.m. A Funeral Service will be celebrated on Saturday, May 31, 2014 at Sts. Cyril and Methodius Ukrainian Catholic Church, 14 Rolls Avenue, St. Catharines at 9:30 a.m. Rite of Committal to follow at St. Volodymyr Ukrainian Cemetery, Oakville. If desired, donations made to the Ukrainian Canadian Social Services-St. Catharines Branch or Children of Chornobyl would be appreciated by the family.
