Obituary of Arthur Whittren Wallis

WALLIS, ARTHUR WHITTREN-July 10, 1924- April 11, 2010-Born in Leeds, Yorkshire, England, Arthur Whittren Wallis passed away at the Greater Niagara Falls General Hospital surrounded by his family. He was predeceased by his loving wife Patricia Wallis (2003). Father to Sandra (Peter) Gill and Sharon (Ted) Matoga of St. Catharines and Grandpa to Krysia, Andrew, Neal and Katie. Also Great Grandpa to Mathew, Connor, Gracie, Abbey, Sidney and Patrick. Arthur served with the Royal Air Force from 1943 to 1945 as a Flight Engineer with 50 Squadron Lancaster bombers. He completed 30 plus missions in the European Theater, receiving numerous decorations. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 350 (Port Dalhousie). He took his family around the world living in England, Australia and eventually settling in St Catharines where he obtained employment at General Motors as a millwright and retired after 25 years. His love of travel continued into to his final days as he had just returned from a trip with his family to Virginia Beach VA, where he always enjoyed a pint of Guinness at Murphy†™s Pub. Arthur†™s family extends their thanks and appreciation to the nurses and doctors at the Emergency Unit and the Intensive Care Unit of the Greater Niagara Falls General Hospital for their compassion and caring. In keeping with Arthur†™s wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be a private family memorial service at a later date. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 585 Carlton Street, St. Catharines.
