Obituary of Apolonia van Ruyven

van RUYVEN, Apolonia (Polly) Adriana (nee van Leeuwen) On Saturday, May 17th, 2014 at Hospice Niagara surrounded by her family. Polly was in her 88th year. Predeceased by her husband Gerard of 55 years, loving mother of Gerard and Marianne of St. Catharines, Jeannie and Michael Cowan of Windsor, Andy and Beverly of North Vancouver B.C., Bill and Colleen of Port Colborne, Marcel and Caroline of Jordan, Josef and Mary of Port Colborne, Terri and George Scott of Welland, Betty and Casey van Zeyl of Fonthill, Polly and Lawrence Corso of Port Dalhousie, dearest "Oma" of 34 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren. Dear sister of Riet (Mary) vander Hoeven of St Catharines, Trees, Bert and Theo of the Netherlands, also predeceased by one brother and two sisters. Polly will be lovingly remembered by her many grandchildren, great grandchildren, family and friends. Polly was a member of Star of the Sea Parish, Catholic Women's League, Club the Netherlands, Hotel Dieu Hospital Auxilliary and the St. Catharines Right To Life Association. Our family wishes to express our sincerest gratitude to Hospice Niagara and each member of their staff for their warmth, empathy, compassion and loving care given to our mother during her final days of life. Mrs. van Ruyven's family will receive visitors at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 585 Carlton Street, St. Catharines on Tuesday, May 20th from 2-4pm and 7-9pm. Vigil Prayers will be recited in the funeral home on Tuesday at 3pm. A Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at Star of the Sea Catholic Church, 34 Elgin Street on Wednesday, May 21st at 11am. Rite of Committal following at Pleasantview Memorial Gardens, Hwy 20, Fonthill. If desired, memorial donations to Hotel Dieu Shaver Hospital, St. Catharines Right To Life, Saint Vincent De Paul Society or Hospice Niagara would be appreciated by the family. I
