Obituary of Connie Evelyn Verge

VERGE, Constance Evelyn May 9, 1926 - February 15, 2014 Connie was born and raised in Toronto, the youngest of Dr. Unsworth and Isabel Jones' three children. Academically accomplished, Connie graduated from the University of Toronto as an Engineer in 1949, one of the few women in her class. We hope she will forgive us revealing this achievement she preferred not to disclose. She was quietly confident of her abilities but we, her family, feel this milestone should be celebrated. Where Connie really excelled was as a professional homemaker, in the truest sense of the word. There was nothing she couldn't do. She was a wonderful cook, always trying new recipes. She canned using the bounty of her garden and the orchards which surrounded her home, preserved marvellous jams and jellies which were greatly enjoyed by family and friends and worked beautiful needlepoint. Her times of relaxation were spent bird watching or tending her roses. Connie's greatest achievement was making a welcoming home for Angus, her family and her friends. Connie volunteered for a number of years at the Jordan Historical Museum gift shop and was their treasurer. She was a long-time member of the Lincoln Study Group. Connie spent many happy summers at the cottage on Lake Catchacoma where there were always 1000 piece puzzles to be tackled. She and Angus enjoyed ski holidays at Parker's Lodge in the Laurentians and travelling the world. Some memorable holidays were to Scotland and to New Zealand where Angus was introduced to the perfection that is pavlova. Connie will be remembered by her family and her many good friends for her kindness, her generosity and her sense of humour. Connie leaves Angus, her much loved husband of 62 years, her dear son Howard and his wife Cathy, granddaughters Michelle and Nicole. She will also be remembered by her sister-in-law Cela Jones and her daughters Rebecca Jones and Caroline (Reinhart) Zank, and brother-in-law Pete Endersby. She was predeceased by her sons Robert and Harold, brother Griff and sister Barbara. She will be fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews and dear friends. In accordance with Connie's wishes, cremation has taken place. On Friday, February 21, 2014 beginning at 10:30 a.m. the family will receive friends at GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 585 Carlton St., St. Catharines. A service celebrating Connie's life will commence at 11:30 a.m. followed by a reception. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to Silver Spire United Church or the Lung Association.
