Obituary of Sergio Aldo Gava

GAVA, Sergio Aldo It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Sergio, after a courageous struggle with Parkinson's Disease. Sergio passed away in the comfort of his home surrounded by his family, at Albright Manor, on February 7, 2014, in his 75th year. Sergio will be greatly missed by his best friend and beloved wife of 52 years, Phildean. Cherished and loving father of Dave (Chris), Melaina (Gary), Andrea, Rick (Lori) and Steven. Adored Nonno of Krystal (Dave), Brittany, Mitchell, Garrett, Katelynn, Christian, Brianna, Trevor, Maddy, Lauren, Nathan and Xandinn. Proud great grandfather "Nonno" of William and Alexander. Dearest brother-in-law of Paul (Heather) Laverdiere of Timmins, ON. Sergio was predeceased by his parents Natale and Romilda, also by his step father Albino Frare. Born in Treviso, Italy, Sergio immigrated to Canada in 1956. Sergio and Phildean started their family in Timmins and eventually settled into their home on Montcalm Cres., in Chippawa, where they raised their beautiful family of five children (and all of their friends). Sergio worked at Hayes Dana for 31 years, retiring in 1999. He found great enjoyment with his seasonal hunting trips up North, supporting his children through their athletics, and making wine every September. Sergio's greatest passion was his lawn and garden, which grew beautifully every year and was maintained with great precision and care. Sergio lived for his family. His absolute favourite moments of his life were spent with his family and friends. A special thank you to the caring staff of Albright Manor for looking after Sergio with great compassion and care during the past year. Sergio's family will receive friends at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 585 Carlton St., St. Catharines on Tuesday, February 11, 2014 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. A Funeral Liturgy outside of Mass will be held in the funeral home chapel on Wednesday, February 12, 2014 at 11:30 a.m. Cremation to follow the service. An inurnment will take place at Fairview Cemetery, Niagara Falls, a later date. As an expression of sympathy, donations made to the Parkinson's Society would be appreciated by the Gava family.
