Saddened by the news of the loss of a great friend. The last time I saw Jim, I had the privilege of meeting Jamie Lee and having a few beers with Jim in his back yard on a warm summer night. We enjoyed hours of ridiculously pleasant and complex conversation, which I've learned to appreciate over the many years with any of the Newman brothers. Thanks, Jim for the killer road trips and side splitting laugh riots. You're gonna be missed by tons of people. Special shout out to Jamie Lee, Kasey, Janice, Diver, Donnie, Jay, Norris and Elaine, and Tommy P. And a thousand others who loved him. Peace. 'Roop'

I met Jim several times through my brother and always thought he was a really nice guy. Easy going and someone who really enjoyed life. So sorry that he has left everyone so early. Carolyn Pitchot

Jim was an enthusiastic caterer who loved a good party and wanted to feed the masses. His annual professional services for the 'Shaw Festival/Stratford Festival Cricket Match' was amazing. He became known in the theatre as BBQ Jim. When my daughter was married and had her reception in 2003 at Navy Hall in NOTL.....there was absolutely no discussion.....BBQ Jim would cater, and he did. RIP Jim.......blessings on your happy soul.......you served us well. Thoughts with your family as they celebrate you. Sincerely....Paddy Parr (Shaw Festival - retired)

May he rest in peace
And rise in glory.
In memory of my nephew, whom I loved dearly, and who to my great joy returned that love.
Until we meet again, go forth upon your journey in the hands of God.
Memory is one gift of God which death cannot destroy.
Go to your rest and your reward.
You will never be forgotten.
Someday, we'll all be reunited
Until then, faith will lead us forward.
Lovingly remembered.......
(Aunt) Ann.

We are very sad but rich that we knew such a great guy and loyal friend. A man that only needed your friendship, good times, and loyalty. My wife Maria, daughters Olivia and Karina and myself will miss you. Your always cheerful smile, energetic entrance, knowledge pretty much about anything, and laughter. Always remember a guy who put the needs of others before himself.

It's been many, many years since I've seen Jim, but will always remember him as a wonderful friend and a very talented musician. I had not known that he was ill, but a few days before he passed, I heard the song "Freebird" on the radio and I thought of him singing that song.....
My deepest condolences to all of his family and friends. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.
