Obituary of Gerardo "Gerry" Gallicchio

Gallicchio, Gerardo "Gerry" - Surrounded by his loving family at the St. Catharines General Hospital on Thursday January 16, 2014 at the age of 69. Devoted husband and life long companion to Sandra (nee Di Pietro) for 46 years. Loving dad to Benny, and Angela (Guy) Fonzo. Cherished Nonno to Hailey, Nevaeh, Nicco and great Nonno of Vinny. Awesome and loving brother to Filomena Portanova (Vince Torelli), Mike (Esther) and Maria. Survived by his father-in-law Pasquale Di Pietro. Beloved brother-in-law to Josephine Gentile, Angela (Joe) Petriello, and Peter (Gina) Di Pietro. Will be sadly missed by his many nieces, nephews, cousins, god-children and close family friends. Predeceased by his parents Bartolomeo and Angela and mother-in-law Pasqualina Di Pietro. Gerry was best known to his friends as "Baldey" who enjoyed to play cards at the Cafe and bocce, watching his beloved Toronto Maple Leafs and his favourite soccer team from Napoli. Baldey also looked forward to spending time with family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchild. Gerry and Sandra shared many great memories when they previously owned Gerry's Express on Facer Street. He was proudly employed by Hayes Dana as a machinist for 39 years. The family will receive friends at the George Darte Funeral Home, 585 Carlton Street on Saturday between 6-8pm, Sunday between 2-4 and 7-9pm. Vigil prayers will be held in the funeral home on Sunday at 3pm. Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at St. Alfred's Church on Monday at 11am with burial to follow at Victoria Lawn Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to St. Catharines General Hospital - Walker Cancer Centre or Diabetes Association.
