Obituary of Victor Joseph Gionet

GIONET, Victor Joseph Passed away peacefully in his home, surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday December 24, 2013, at the age of 80. Beloved husband to Laurenda for 56 loving years. Cherished father of Brenda (Michel) Haché, Maurice (Wendy) and Donald. Proud Pépère of Derick, Philippe, Nicole, Dana, Casey and Merissa. Dear brother of Évangeline, Lionel and Donat. Victor was predeceased by his parents Lazare and Marie, also by his siblings Hervé, Adélard, Joseph, Estelle, Abraham, Albert, Edgard, Xavier, Yvonne, Jeanne and Sylvain. Victor and Laurenda came to St. Catharines in 1956. Victor was employed at General Motors of Canada, where he worked there for 29 years retiring in 1991. Victor was devoted to his church Paroisse Immaculée Conception, and he was a Third Degree Knight of the Chevaliers De Colomb. Victor will be greatly missed and will be remembered as a fun loving and active person. A special thank you to the caregivers from CCAC, for their care and support that they gave to Victor. Victor's family will receive family and friends at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 585 Carlton St., on Sunday, December 29, 2013 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Vigil prayers will be recited in the funeral home Sunday evening at 8:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, December 30, 2013 at 10 a.m. at Immaculée Conception Church, 101 Garnet St. Rite of Committal to follow Mass at Victoria Lawn Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Parkinson's Foundation or a Mass offering in memory of Victor.
