Obituary of Paolo Burgio

Burgio, Paolo It is with heavy hearts that our family announces that our beloved Paolo passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 19,2013 at the St. Catharines General Hospital in his 88th year. Paolo was born in Realmonte, Sicily, Italy to Francesco Salvatore Carmela Burgio, and immigrated to Canada in 1958. Paolo retired from Hayes Dana after 18 years at the age of 60.Devoted husband of Giuseppina for 62 years. Loving father of Sam (Shelley), Joseph (Linda), and Carmela (Tony) DiBiasi. Adoring Nonno of 5 grandchildren, Bridget, Tina (Antonio Firenze), Paul, Daniel, and Joey.Cherished Great-Nonno of Justice, and the"apple of his eye" Dante. Beloved brother of Maria (Joe) Bonsignore, Rosario (Antonietta) of Sicily, Guiseppe (the late Leonarda), Gerlando (Maria) of Sicily, Angelo (Rosina) and Tom (Rose). Dear brother - in - law of Teresa (and his late brother Pietro), and Leonarda (and the late Pietro Valla). Predeceased by his brother Pasquale (and the late Vincenza). Paolo will be fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, brothers and sisters-in-law, cousins in Italy and Canada. Family will receive friends at the George Darte Funeral Home, 585 Carlton Street on Sunday, December 22, 2013 between 2-4 and 7-9pm. Vigil prayers will be held at 3:30 PM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Alfred's Roman Catholic Church, 272 Vine St. on Monday, December 23 at 11am. Entombment to follow at Victoria Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Ontario in Paolo's honour.
