Obituary of James William Stack

Stack, James William (Jim) - born March 13, 1938 in St. Catharines Died peacefully, December 4, 2013, following a short illness at St. Catharines General Hospital, supported by his cherished family. Jim is survived by his best friend and loving wife of more than 55 years, Kitty. His precious children, Jimmy (Kathy), Mary Ellen (Kim) Irvine, Bill, and Paul (deceased 2010) (Linda). His beloved grandchildren, Tyler & Ryan Stack, Jocelyn (Jake) Greenwood, James K & Connor Stack, Gordon & Cameron Irvine. Also survived by his sister, Patricia (Ron) Gonder, his brother Michael (Nancy), his nieces and nephews, Carl, Joellen and Jack Gonder, Marie and Tim Stack. His brother- in - law, Parnell Matthieu. Predeceased by his parents James J & Gladys Stack, and sister Joanne Matthieu, and his in - laws, William & Maria Van Roy. Jim was employed at GM as a supervisor in the Pattern Shop for 35 years, retiring in 1992. He was a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus, a member of council 1394 for 54 years. An active member of St. Denis R.C. Church. A volunteer with the Warehouse of Hope, Saint Vincent de Paul, Bingos for K of C, and St. Denis. Jim loved his family, and enjoyed annual family summer vacations, on George Island in Killarney for 37 years. He was a loving and caring man who treasured family and friends. He retired early and was able to spend many years actively involved in the lives of his grandchildren and being involved in the community. He will always be remembered by his family and friends for his sense of humor and as 'Grandpa Pest". His family would like to thank Dr. Buchner and the staff of 4A, at St. Catharines General Hospital for their compassionate care. Friends will be received at the George Darte Funeral Home, 585 Carlton Street, St. Catharines, on Friday, December 6th, 2013 from 6 - 9 pm and Saturday from 10 - 11 am.Vigil prayers will take place on Friday at 7 pm. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Denis Roman Catholic Church, 230 Lake St. on Saturday, December 7th at 12 noon. Cremation to follow. If desired donations to the Parkinson's Society, Walker Cancer Centre or the St. Vincent de Paul Society in Jim's memory, would be appreciated by the family.
