Obituary of Giuseppe La Selva

La Selva, Giuseppe "Joe" - Passed away peacefully at home on November 22, 2013 in his 86th year. Survived by his loving wife of 62 years Carmela (nee Palombo). Cherished father to his three children Cecilia (George) Kwinecki, Lena (Bryan) Pringle and John (Sonia). Nonno was blessed with 7 grandchildren Joey (Saoirse) Kwinecki, Vera (David) Wan, Robert Pringle, Carmel Pringle (Ryan), Laura Pringle (Matt), Carmel and Joseph; and his great grandchildren Maisyn, Justin and Sophia. Joe is survived by his siblings, Antonietta (Michele) DeMeo, Maria (Ernesto) Ferrante, Filomena De Lisio and Antonio (Giuseppina) and many nieces and nephews in St. Catharines, Italy and Argentina. Joe is predeceased by his parents Giovanni and Cecilia; Carmela's parents Nicola and Giovannina Palombo; brother Nicola (Giuseppina); and his brother-in-law Antonio De Lisio. Also predeceased by his brothers and sisters-in-law in Italy and Argentina. Joe came to Canada from Castellino del Biferno, Molise, Italy in 1958 and operated his own business as a mason until his retirement in 1985. The family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude to Josie and CCAC for the care and compassion given to our father. Family will receive friends at the George Darte Funeral Home, 585 Carlton Street on Sunday between 2-4 and 7-9pm. Vigil Prayers will be said in the funeral home on Sunday at 7pm. Funeral Liturgy will be held in St. Alfred's Church, 272 Vine Street on Monday at 9:30am. Entombment will take place at Victoria Lawn Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Heart and Stroke Foundation in Joe's honour.
