Obituary of Donald Edward Hastings

HASTINGS, Donald Edward "Don" With his family by his side, Don passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 3, 2013 at the Niagara Health System- St. Catharines Site, in his 82nd year. Beloved husband and best friend to Georgina "Tiny". Loving father to his sons Douglas of St. Catharines and David (Kim) of London, and to his daughter the late Donna- Jane (2007). Devoted Grampa to Diana, Dillon, Derrick, Tyler and Carter. Dear brother to Bob Hastings, brother-in-law Charles Marino and sisters, the late Gay Marino (2012) and Anne (Harold) Downey. He was a special brother-in-law to Iris and Bill Stone, Margaret Jackson and Shirley (Tom) Riley. He will be missed by his many nieces and nephews. An outstanding educator for 37 years, Don retired in 1987 to enjoy travelling and spending special time with his grandchildren at home, at the arenas and at the fields. Watching his grandchildren was one of his true joys. A special thank you to the ER staff and to the nurses and doctors on the third floor, for their care and support. Don's family will receive friends at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 585 Carlton St. on Thursday, November 7, 2013 from 7-9 p.m. and on Friday, November 8, 2013 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A celebration of Don's life will be held in the funeral home chapel on Saturday, November 9, 2013 at 11 a.m. Cremation to follow service. A private family inurnment will take place at Victoria Lawn Cemetery, at a later date. If desired, contributions in memory of Don can be made to Hospice Niagara and are deeply appreciated by the family.
