Obituary of Mykola (Nick) Dejneka

DEJNEKA, Mykola (Nick)- Passed away on Thursday, May 30th, 2013 at Garden City Manor at the age of 88. Beloved husband of the late Anna. Cherished Tato of Olia, Mary, Odarka (Wiley), Vera and Natalie. Loving Dido of Natalka (Andrij), Andrij (Kristina), Mark (Alison), Tanya (Brendan), Zach, Ivanka and Zoe. Great Dido of Yarema, Lukian, Toma, Kalyna and Andrea. Nick was a member of Sts. Cyril and Methodius Ukrainian Catholic Church, the League of Ukrainian Canadians and the Ukrainian Youth Association - St. Catharines Branch. He was also a founding member of the Ukrainian Black Sea Hall and a member of the Ukrainian Nationalists Organization (O.U.N). Nick was an avid supporter of the Ukrainian Canadian Congress, the Ukrainian Newspaper Homin and Litopys UPA. Nick was a long time employee of the City of St. Catharines until his retirement. His adventures on Canadian soil began as a gold miner in Northern Ontario. He cherished his family and loved animals and nature and will always be remembered for calling people "Smiley". Our sincere thanks to the nurses, PSWs and Administration staff of Garden City Manor for their care, warmth and comfort extended to our father during his 14 day stay. The family will receive visitors at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 585 Carlton Street, St. Catharines on Monday, June 3rd from 2-4p.m. & 6-8p.m. Panachyda will take place on Monday at 6p.m. in the funeral home. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated at Sts. Cyril and Methodius Ukrainian Catholic Church on Tuesday, June 4th at 10a.m. Rite of Committal at Victoria Lawn Cemetery to follow. Memorial donations to a charity of choice would be appreciated by the family.
