I am very sorry to hear about the loss of your father. I am a music student at A.N. Myer right now, and I just want you to know, that even today, students have a great deal of respect for your father. I had the privilege of playing for him, along with the rest of the Myer band at our winter show this year, and I just want you to know that that will be a moment I'll never forget. It was an honour.
Our condolences, from everyone at A.N. Myer. Past, and present.

I read yesterday in the National Post of the death of your father. I had not thought of him in many years, yet his impact on my life is seen daily in my appreciation and love of music. I was a student of A. N Myer and through is committment to providing a positive, supportive learing environment we all came to appreciated and take an active role in encorporating music into our daily lives. May you find comfort and peace in those memories left in your heart and minds.

We learned to day of the death of your Dad and regret that we were unable to attend in person. We have fond memories of both your Mum and Dad through our connection with Brock University, and had several times of great social fun at their home. We know how much your Dad will be missed by all members of the family. Please accept our sincere condolences.

My sincere sympathy to the family.I am grateful that through this online service I can express some sort of tribute and thanks for Wally Laughton's tremendous inspiration while I was a music student at A.N.Myer. I know that Wally was somewhat disappointed that I did not become a music educator but I often think back on his encouragement and love of music which has been so important to me in my work as a church musician, composer and piano technician. The day before I learned of his death, my daughter came to me with a problem she was having in her high school band class. I told her how my high school music teacher had helped me with a similar problem. So after all these years and across so many miles to us in Calgary, Wally Laughton's impact as a good teacher and decent human being is still being felt. Thanks Wally Laughton for enriching our lives.

We want to send our sincere condolances to your family at this time. We met Wally at A.N. Myers special 40th Anniversary where he conducted the concert band in which two of our daughters were a part of. Both of us were heavily involved in the Aamps (A.N.Myers Parent Association) to continue to promote the excellence in the school's music program from l993-l998. We will continue to think of the family at this most difficult time.

My sincerest sympathy to the family. Wally had a great influence in my appreciation of music during my high school years at Myer, 1961-1966. He encouraged even the poorest of students to succeed, and always with a touch of humour. I was fortunate enough to be part of his concert bands and brass ensemble, and remember fondly the yearly trips to other schools, the concerts in the band shells at St. Catharines and Niagara Parks, the brass and organ recitals at Drummond Hill Presbyterian Church, and even the time he called my mother to sign me up for the Kiwanis Music Festival! Many times in my life I am reminded of the little things he said or recounted to us. We were all lucky to have known Wally Laughton.

It is with a great deal of fondness that I remember Wally Laughton. He gave me the appreciation that I have for music today. But more than that he was simply a fine man who knew how to inspire students. To this day when I listen
to Dvorak's Symphony #9 in E minor which I carry in the car, I think of Wally Laughton. Having lost my own Dad recently I can only say to the Laughton family I know how hard it is to lose a father but you should find much comfort in knowing how many lives that Wally positively influenced over his lifteime. He was truly a fine gentleman and will be missed by all those that he touched.

My sincere sympathy to the Laughton clan and friends. Wally had an amazing influence, musically and spiritually, on so many of us at A.N.Myer. Wally set such a great example for young people and always challenged us to look at not just music, but life, in different ways - and he always made it fun! Even as a music teacher of 25 years in London, Ont. I still catch myself asking "How would Wally have done it?" Rarely have I been stumped for an answer - there is always some happy memory that comes flooding back to inspire me, usually followed by his favourite exclamation: "Don't kid me!" In recent years I was so pleased to re-establish contact with him and although it was more difficult for him to communicate, the fire and passion of music and teaching and young people were so obviously still there. His influence and example carry on in many of those he taught.

My sympathy to the family of Wally Laughton. As a student in the A.N.Myer band from 1960-1965, I have fond memories of Wally's dedication to music and to young people. He was an inspiration to so many of us to pursue musical careers. My two brothers, John and David, went on to take music at university. David and I are both teachers and have been led by Mr. Laughton's example. John is an organist and piano technician. He has touched many people's lives in a way that many teachers strive to do, but often do not succeed to the extent that he did.
My sincere condolences,
Peggy Scott
