Obituary of Reginald Thomas Hayes

Hayes, Reginald Thomas: peacefully at his home with his family on Tuesday, Oct. 15, at age 75 after a courageous battle with cancer. Loving husband of Colleen; dearly loved father of Catherine (Butryn), Michael (spouse Susan), Annette (spouse Peter Neudorf) and Jennifer (spouse Dean Wakil); adored grandfather of Sarah and Kelly Butryn, Zachary Hayes and Chelsy and Stephen Neudorf; loving brother of Alena (Langlois); and loved uncle of many nephews and nieces. Predeceased by his mother and father (Mary Ellen and George Hayes) and his sister Jessica (Kelly). Reg was retired after a successful career as an interior decorator, culminating in his creation and ownership of the very successful and popular Reg†™s Custom Draperies. Living a life of always offering help to others, Reg was a selfless and inspirational leader and was as quick with a joke as he was in providing kindness and support to all he came in contact with. Reg was instrumental in the development of Life Lease Housing for Seniors in St. Catharines and is the founding father of Jubilee Place and Port View Village. Reg sat as a director on the corporate condominium board of The Clusters and Parnell Garden Homes and was a president of both Pineridge Estate Homes and Life Lease Non-Profit Residents, St. Catharines Corp. Reg was also a dedicated and devoted volunteer at St. Vincent de Paul, acting as co-ordinator of the Food Share Program. Reg†™s lifetime of inexhaustible service to others was recognized by the City of St. Catharines when it bestowed upon him the 2002 Volunteer Award. Reg is resting at the George Darte Funeral Chapel, 585 Carlton St., St. Catharines, and his family asks those who wish to celebrate his life to join them there either Thursday, Oct. 17, from 7-9 p.m., or Friday, Oct. 18, from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Liturgy to be held Saturday, Oct. 19, at St. Alfred Church, 272 Vine St., at 10:30 a.m. with Rite of Committal to follow at Pleasantview Memorial Gardens, Hwy. 20, Fonthill. Vigil prayers will be held in the funeral home on Friday at 2pm. Memorial remembrances may be made to St. Alfred's - St. Vincent de Paul Society, St. Alfred's Out of the Cold Program or Wellspring Niagara.
