Obituary of Antanas Gverzdys
GVERZDYS, Antanas
Peacefully, after a brief illness, on Tuesday, October 21, 2003 at the St. Catharines General Hospital in his 93rd year. Beloved spouse of 61 years of Maria. Loving father of Algimantas (Marlene), Nijole Simonavicius (Algis), and Sharunas (Ingrid). Cherished grandfather of Andrius, Peter, Aurelia, Audra, Saulius, Vaida, Renata, Tomas, Michael, Ariana, and Marcus. Survived by Robertas Gverzdys and Janina Gverzdyte of Lithuania.
Having completed studies in Economics at Vytautas Magnus University, he worked as an auditor for the revenue department in Lithuania. As a consequence of World War II, he immigrated to Canada where he worked many years for General Motors of Canada. He enjoyed many years of retirement during which he found joy in the achievements of his children and grandchildren.
The family wishes to extend special thanks to Dr. Wayne Gruber for his compassionate care.
Mr. Gverzdys is resting at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 585 Carlton St. until Friday at 9:30am. Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at Queen of the Angels Oratory at 10:00am. Rite of committal in St. John's Lithuanian Cemetery, Mississauga. Visiting hours are Thursday 2-4 and 7-9pm. Vigil prayers for the deceased will be held at the funeral home on Thursday at 8:00pm. Memorial remembrances to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or Lithuanian Children's Fund for Cancer and Tuberculosis would be appreciated by the family.
