Beloved husband of Appolonia for 55 years, loving father of Gerrad and Marianne of St. Catharines, Jeannie and Michael Cowan of Barry's Bay, Andy and Beverly of North Vancouver B.C., Bill and Colleen of Merritton, Marcel and Caroline of Jordan, Josef and Mary of Port Colborne, Teresa and George Scott of Welland, Betty and Casey van Zeyl of Fonthill, Polly and Lawrence Corso of Port Dalhousie, dearest opa of 34 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Dear brother of Albert, Rev. Adriaan, and Catarena all of the Netherlands, also predeceased by 9 brothers and sisters. Gerard will be lovingly remembered by his many nieces, nephews, family and friends. Gerard was a member of Star of the Sea Parish, St. Vincent de Paul Society, C.A.W. Local 199, Club the Netherlands, and Right To Life Association.Mr van Ruijen is resting at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 585 Carlton St. until Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated in Star of the Sea Church on Tuesday at 10 a.m. Vigil prayers for Gerard will be held in the funeral home on Monday at 8 p.m. Rite of committal in Pleasantview Memorial Gardens, Fonthill. Visiting hours are Sunday and Monday 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Memorial remembrances to Right To Life or the Alzheimers Society would be appreciated by the family.
