On behalf of my mother, Vivien, and brother Mike, sending you our sincere sympathy. We only learned of Victor's death recently. My father, Eugene, like Victor, was one of Brock's founders. He, too, was a Slav in a bastion of British academia. Victor was well loved and respected by my father, and as a child I remember meeting all of you. Our condolences to Alexandra, Jana and Victor at this difficult time.

Being the former Chief of Police at Brock University, Vic and I were always running into each other either in the University or at the Pen Centre. I always considered him to be a friend of the highest order and along with many of his other friends, will sorely miss him. There are too few men of his calibre in this world.

As a colleague at Brock in the 70s, I remember Victor as a hearty, warm man, with a global intellect and a generous spirit. He and Alexandra threw the best dinner parties in town. To Alexandra, Victor Jr and Jana, my warmest condolences. Everyone who knew him shares your loss.

Dear Alexandra,
Please accept my condolences on Victor's death, and my wish that his memory will continue to inspire and challenge us as did his life and his time as a colleague. I am thousands of miles away from home as I write this, and find myself smiling while remembering how often he made me think and made me feel the joy of being in academic life.

Victor Fic lived an epic life stretching across the continents and the great civilizations. He unremittingly fought for justice and for understanding and reconciliation between cultures. Victor was a wonderful inspiration and devoted mentor to me and he was my daughter Lucille's Godfather. He touched the lives of thousands of students with his wisdom, enormous generosity of spirit, his dignity and his integrity. He lived his life with panache and great style (and a sartorial elegance unique to himself). There must be a special place in heaven for some one so beloved. His work is done now. May he rest in peace. But he lives on in the hearts of all of us who had the privilege of knowing this beautiful man. My deepest sympathy to Mrs. Fic, Jana and Victor in their enormous loss of a husband and father who loved his family above all else.

The Fic family,
I just wanted to let you know that I was a student in Victor's first year political science class at Brock in 1985-6. He has always stood out as a humane teacher. His humour and character made his lectures a pleasure. I came to know him a little over the years and I will remember his friendly, generous spirit.
